Thanksgiving Day - New Years Day: Avenue of Lights is a beautiful drive-through holiday light display. This spectacular animated display, lining two miles of Moorman-Wavering Park is new and different each year. Nearly 375 pieces, will combine to make over 100 display groupings. December: The Quincy Area Branch Alzheimer's Association is selling original hand blown glass ornaments by regional Illinois artist Hiram Toraason during the holiday season. The limited edition art piece is specially designed for the Association and sells for $30. All proceeds benefit the Quincy Area Branch. For more information, contact the branch office at 228-1111.

January 2: Alzheimer's Association presents Free Monthly Lunch & Lecture Series for Caregivers. Program will be on Planning for the Future presented by Bruce Alford, Assistant City Attorney, at the Quincy Senior Center, 639 York. Lunch will be served at 11:45a.m. and the one-hour program will begin at noon. Reservations are required by Tuesday prior to the program. Emergency Home Response Service is a 24-hour emergency 2-way communication link that consists of a base unit and an activation device worn by the client that will automatically connect the older adult to a professionally staffed support center that will get them the help they need.
Deb Poore a Case manager from the West Central Illinois Case Coordination Unit will give an informational talk on Emergency Home Response for Seniors at this TRIAD (The Right Information And Direction) meeting. TRIAD is a forum where Seniors and Law Enforcement work together to prevent them from becoming victims. There will also be an update on new scams at the start of the meeting. March : Quincy area residents can attend an Alzheimer’s disease support group meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Alzheimer's Association Quincy Area Branch Office. The office is located at the Quincy Area Senior & Family Resource Center, 639 York Street, Room 200. Support Group facilitator will be Roma Lee, Activities Director, North Adams Home. An Alzheimer’s support group is a small discussion of caregivers, family, and friends of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias to discuss issues related to caring for someone with the disease. It is intended to provide a non-threatening and nonjudgmental place for individuals to express their feelings and talk about their needs and concerns. It is also a forum for exchanging information and practical ideas, learning about local resources and giving and receiving emotional support. The meeting is open to the public.
